Decor Inspiration

January 14, 2016

Last weekend, Rob and I were lucky enough to be able to take a trip to the Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island for work (if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen my photos from the trip). I’ll write more about the experience when my piece for work is published, but for now I’ll just say that it was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time and that I’m totally inspired to redecorate my apartment after staying there.

The cool thing about the inn is that it’s actually one of the Carnegie family homes (the island was their favorite getaway and many of them lived there at some point), so a lot of the furniture and accessories are family heirlooms, from the furniture to the first-edition books to the accessories. I was particularly struck by the loveliness of the library, which is warm and welcoming and full of pattern and personality. You can’t see it from the photo, but there’s a fireplace in there, too, and since it was cold when we were there, it was always crackling away.

I’d been thinking about giving our living room a bit of an update lately–we’re getting a new sofa soon, and I’ve always wanted a colorful Moroccan rug for the floor. But I couldn’t quite think about that in any cohesive terms until I saw this particular room. And now I want to copy everything. If only we could wallpaper…
