So this might be something you guys totally know already, but it was kind of a revelation to me: Over the weekend, I found myself in need of a couple of tablespoons of brown sugar for a recipe, but totally resistant to leaving my house to go to the store and get a new box, not in the least because it was raining. I remembered reading somewhere that you can make your own with molasses and regular granulated sugar and, after a quick Google search, found out that you totally can.

Seriously, this is the easiest thing ever, and I’m never buying brown sugar again (well, until I run out of molasses). All you do is mix 1 cup white granulated sugar with 1 Tbsp molasses (you can halve or double that ratio as needed). Use a fork to blend it all together, and don’t worry when it looks weirdly clumpy and gross at first; just keep fluffing everything with your fork and it’ll all come together. Easiest thing in the world and totally saved my recipe. And also, I thought it tasted even better than the stuff from the box–which is generally the case with stuff like this, don’t you think?

Have you ever made your own brown sugar? Would you try it?
