Last week I shared some general inspiration photos for our new apartment, so this week I thought I’d share some specifically dedicated to the kitchen. Along with bright white walls and a big window, we’ve got pretty generic brown cabinetry that’s paired with plain counter tops, so I definitely want to change out the hardware and update it with some cheery knobs and pulls. We also–unlike our current kitchen–have a pretty big blank wall that separates the kitchen from the living room, and I’ve been thinking about what to do with it. We know we’re going to push what’s currently our dining room table up against it, and we’ll definitely be putting up my beloved chalkboard, but here are some other ideas that have been floating around in my head thanks to the design blogosphere.

God knows I love a good gallery wall. This one’s via Caroline Brewer.

I love the pot racks in this kitchen (via Apartment Therapy), but my boss hilariously told me I’d have to make sure my pot bottoms were shiny at all times, which is probably true. Still love this look, though.

More open shelving, via Design*Sponge. I just love the way these shelves–salvaged pine with commercial brackets–look. R. assures me we can build something similar (excuse me, R. assures me he can build something similar), and I’m thisclose to taking him up on it. But seriously, this is lovely.

Any thoughts–or tried-and-true tips for organizing a new kitchen? Would love to hear.

We have open shelves in our kitchen and I sometimes like them but I’m going to be honest 90% of the time I have such a hard time with them looking tidy. If only they looked like the styled ones in the pictures!
