Obvious Child movie

I wanted to see Obvious Child when it was out in theaters–especially since it was playing at Burns Court, my favorite movie house–but I never got around to it. So the other night, R. and I Red Box-ed it, and I’m so pleased we did. It’s a really sweet, funny, honest movie about an aspiring 20-something comedian named Donna (Jenny Slate) who has a one-night stand with a man named Max (Jake Lacy) after being unceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend. A few weeks later, Donna finds herself pregnant and has to figure out how to deal with her predicament (it’s not a spoiler to tell you she decides to get an abortion, or that most of the movie revolves around this portion of the plot), tell Max what happened and generally try to figure out her life a little.

Jenny Slate carries the movie–she’s totally charming and funny and sympathetic in her portrayal of Donna–and Jake Lacy as preppy Max is so sweet and so into Donna that you just want to pinch his cheeks. I totally recommend this one if you’re in the mood for some weekend movie-watching.
