Just a couple of things I’ve been loving recently…
Sarah Wilson’s I Quit Sugar. Remember when I wrote about cutting back on sugar? Well, real talk: I did it, kind of–I kept eating fruit and natural sweeteners–and felt great…and then I jumped back on the bandwagon and have been on a sugar binge ever since. So I bought this book after reading about it in a couple of places by writers I trust, and I’m committing to seriously, seriously cutting back on the sweet stuff this time (including fruit and those natural sweeteners). More on this to come. In the meantime, here’s a great post on quitting sugar by Gluten-Free Girl.
Martha’s kale and farro salad with feta. My new favorite lunch. So good.
NARS lipstick in Schiap. The perfect hot pink. Seriously, so bright and awesome.
The fattoush recipe from the Jerusalem cookbook. Probably my favorite recipe in this Ottolongehi compendium, which is also one of my favorite cookbooks, period.
Smashbox Camera-Ready BB cream. I wrote recently that I’ve switched up my skincare routine, and I’m definitely seeing a difference. Thanks to the One Love Organics products I’ve been using, my skin is softer and way less irritated–and thanks to this amazing BB cream, which covers without feeling like a mask, it looks, well, camera-ready. Such a huge change from the drugstore BB cream I’d been using. (Thanks for the tip, Em!)
Wellies. When it’s been raining here lately, it’s been really raining, and I’ve been wanting a pair of Hunter rain boots for years, so I finally bit the bullet. I got the super-bright Pillar Box Red color, and I am loving them with jeans and a striped shirt. Oh, and a random P.S.: If you’re in need of an umbrella, I have this one, and it is delightful–I feel like I’m in a bubble when I use it, and I randomly get a lot of compliments on it.
Benefit’s Watt’s Up! highlighter. I got a sample of this eons ago, and I only just got around to using it a few weeks ago when I went to a fancy work event and wanted my makeup to look a little more special. I really like it: It goes on easily, and it adds some shimmer without looking garish. When the sample runs out, I’ll definitely buy the full-size version. P.S. Here’s a great highlighter tutorial, in case you’re looking for one.
Parrot tulips. I spotted these fringe-y tulips at Trader Joe’s the other day and I couldn’t resist bringing home a bunch. They’re so pretty, and I smile every time I look at them.
Cheryl Strayed’s Tiny Beautiful Things. Oh my gosh, this book broke my heart a little. Strayed is such a good writer, and Tiny Beautiful Things–a collection of her advice columns from The Rumpus–is just a good read. In it, Strayed tackles some of her readers’ Big Questions–everything from love and dating to addiction and family crises–and she responds with this trademark empathy that’s refreshing and thought-provoking and that doesn’t let the advice-seeker take the easy way out. I highly recommend this one; it won’t take you long to get through and it’s totally worth the read. P.S. You should get your mitts on Wild, too, if you haven’t already.
What are some of your favorite things right now? I would love to know.
