While it’s no secret that I love to cook and bake, I am sometimes a bit behind in my acquisition of the kitchen tools that will really help me do so. Case in point: Only in the past year have I gotten my (oven) mitts on a real-deal food processor and a cast-iron skillet. Previously, I relied on my semi-crappy blender for recipes that called for food-processing ingredients (or just eschewed those recipes altogether); and if I had to transfer something from the stovetop to the oven, I’d take it out of the pan I was using and put it on a baking sheet, which was fine, but you know, not ideal.
But now that I have both of these items in my kitchen collection, I find myself trying out so many new things. Not only do I make crusts for pies and bring sauces together in the food processor, I also make fresh breadcrumbs, which are game-changers, and grate cheese, shred veggies, etc., etc. It’s so much easier than chopping/mixing/grating everything by hand. And as far as the skillet goes, I mean, yes, it’s definitely easier to keep everything in one pan, but food just tastes better thanks to the seasoning that builds up on the cast-iron. Yum. (P.S. I have this KitchenAid food processor, and my cast-iron skillet came from good old Target.)
Other favorite kitchen items: My stand mixer, of course, which always feels like a total luxury to use; my trusty baking sheets, which are crazy-good multi-taskers; and my French press.
And on my kitchen wish list? A Le Creuset Dutch oven and a really great set of knives. Oh, and if we’re getting really fancy, a set of copper pots (dreeeeeeam).
How about you? What are your favorite kitchen items and what’s on your own kitchen wishlist? I’d love to know.
