A while back, I read this interesting article on The Chalkboard about the benefits of drinking a cup of warm water with lemon juice in the morning, and all the health benefits this seemingly simple beverage has (seriously, it’s quite a list). I did it halfheartedly for awhile last year, but have since started up again, and I have to say: I have been feeling better in the mornings. I don’t know if it’s the scent of the lemons or the taste of the citrus giving me a boost, or just the warm water emulating hot a cup of coffee, but I really like it. And it’s nice to have a morning ritual at my house. (I drink coffee, eat breakfast, etc. at my desk.)

Psst: Not like you need a recipe for this, but I do exactly what The Chalkboard recommends: One mug full of warm water, plus the juice of half a lemon. Also, a commentor on The Chalkboard article pointed out that the acidity in lemons is bad for tooth enamel, so I’m going to start drinking it with a straw–I thought that was such a helpful tip.

Do you guys have morning routines like this that you love to stick to? If so, I hope you’ll share–I’d love to hear them.

Such a great idea, I might have to try this! I drink way too much coffee really. We were using lemon zest and juice for something and saved the peels in the freezer since boyfriend says I can use them to make hot lemon tea. I’ll let you know if it works out!
