So, you know how in this post I said that ACS got a job in Sarasota and we were on the hunt for a house? Well, we found one! And it’s perfect: It’s in a fantastic neighborhood; it has tons of space and lots of Old Florida character; it has a huge backyard with lemon, orange and citrus trees growing in it and bougainvillea spilling over the fence; it has a working fireplace (!!); and, best of all, the landlord is just really great. When I signed all the paperwork yesterday, she gave me a hug. A hug!

Other great things: For the first time in my adult life, I’m going to have a dishwasher and a washer and dryer of my very own. Seriously, as someone who’s been hand-washing all her servingware and who’s been schlepping loads of laundry–pockets heavy with quarters–to apartment-complex laundry rooms for the last seven years, I’m ecstatic. Plus, we get to paint, which is exciting. I’m thinking soft grays for the main living spaces, bright white on the trim and the huge built-in shelving that greets you when you walk through the front door, and pops of color with furniture and accessories.

You can obviously expect lots of posts about this in the near future.

(Here’s a funny thing about house-hunting, though: It really made me recognize that I am not the laid-back, go-with-the-flow person I like to think I am. I was a stressed-out mess throughout the entire thing (there were even a few tears!), and I just really wanted everything to go perfectly and in good order and be done in an organized manner as soon as possible. I’m lucky that it did (I mean, hello, the landylady hugged me, like I said–it was all fairly painless, looking back), but wow, I was intense. Just ask ACS.)

So that’s what’s going on, and it looks like the days leading up to Christmas are going to be spent packing and purging. I’ll share some pics of the new place when I have time to take some–right now all I have are incredibly bad, hurriedly-snapped iPhone ones. Can’t wait to show you!

P.S. Also, you guys? I’m going to be living with a boy. Eek!

Photo: My own, snapped in Charleston earlier this year. Talk about the prettiest houses…

Oh my goodness I’m so excited for you! And I am so with you on the stress of house hunting. When we were buying this house I had all out melt downs a few times and still get stressed when I get totally overwhelmed with the renovation work/options (SO MANY CHOICES!). Turns out I’m not as laid back as I thought either.

I can’t wait to see the place, a photo house tour coming? And moving is an excellent way to purge. I had a mountain of stuff in my front yard when I left DC to give away. There will likely come a moment when you are just so over packing and organizing that you just start throwing everything away or putting it in the give away pile. There’s only maybe two things I wish I still had.

Ahhh, I’m so excited for you!

Aw, thank you, Jenn! This is the nicest comment! Sorry to hear you were stressed out when you were house-hunting but thanks for the empathy. I totally hit that “I’m-so-over-packing” moment today and gave SO MUCH STUFF to Goodwill, but I’m 90 percent done two weeks out and feel really happy about that! Also, two amazing friends literally helped me get my crap together for like 10 hours–so lucky to have them!

And yes, I will definitely share photos and some before-and-afters ASAP! So excited to. 🙂
