In 2013.

January 2, 2013

2013, I’m really glad to see you. After a festive New Year’s Eve with friends spent listening to music and watching the famous pineapple drop in downtown Sarasota, I spent New Year’s Day walking the Ringling Bridge with ACS, exploring a local shop I’d long wanted to visit, cooking a homemade dinner and thinking about what I want for myself for the year ahead.

See, 2013 is also the year I turn 30 (eek!). And while I know age is just a number and you’re as young or old as you feel and all that, 30 is—pretty undeniably—a milestone. So below is a running list of things I want to do or accomplish this year—one that I’ll update as I think of more things to add to it. If you’d like to read it, it’s after the jump—if not, that’s cool; you can check back here tomorrow for some sparkly goodness from a favorite new Etsy shop.

+ Be kind (to others and myself).
+ Work hard.
+ Learn to be more patient.
+ Pay off my car (this will be reality in two months!) and my other debts.
+ Start an herb garden on my lanai.
+ Own a lemon tree.
+ Find a signature scent.
+ Take a Bikram yoga class. (This terrifies me, but I really want to do it.)
+ Ride my bike as much as possible.
+ Take care of my skin.
+ Take care of my mental health (more on this later).
+ Drop 20 pounds. (This is definitely long-term, but I’m trying to be honest so I’m including it even though putting it out there makes me cringe a little.)
+ Continue to evolve my personal style—I feel like, at the end of 2012, I really started to figure out what I like.
+ Make my house a place where I really love spending time.
+ Learn how to make a great signature cocktail.
+ Host a dinner party.
+ Buy more flowers. I love them, and they’re such an easy way to brighten up the house.
+ Light lots of candles. (And maybe splurge on a Diptyque?!)
+ Get really into Christmas—send cards, get a live tree, bake a lot. I didn’t do any of that this year and it made me so sad.
+ Speaking of sending cards, send more snail mail. (An excuse to buy more stationery? OK with me.)
+ Be more confident in myself and my decisions.
+ Plan a fabulous, mostly-DIY bridal shower for my best friend before her April wedding.
+ Let things happen.

More to come…

I have similar goals (especially the first four.) Sadly, I won’t be getting a lemon tree while living up north, but maybe someday. Also, I’m totally with you about losing weight. So I guess you could say we are in this together. : )

Oh I know, I turn 30 this year too. I’m both happy and terrified by this.

    Happy New Year Megan!

Happy New Year to you, too, Hila! Glad you understand the whole turning-30 thing–as I recall, we share a birthday (August 7!). 🙂

And just to let you know, 30 might have been my favourite year. xx
